I just saw something about a kid my age (14) going blind from Acanthamoeba keratitis, I assume he used a regular Renu solution or something, which i used to use; i just switched to Clear Care.. i almost always wear my contacts in the shower, and i always wear them at the beach (not smart, i know, but i don't go in the ocean anymore) and when i swim in my pool. Since Clear Care is a hydrogen peroxide solution, does it help prevent/ lower your chances of getting Acanthamoeba keratitis?

Well, no, not really. You get infected by this by being exposed to it and it being stuck between your contact and your eye, so taking a shower and swimming in them in any circumstance makes your chances higher, not really the solution you use to disinfect them. there have been some solutions in the past that have been suspect of not killing this little guy all that well, and they are no longer on the market.
There are several easy ways to greatly reduce the chance of getting this sight-threatening condition 鈥?and, in fact, any type of eye infection:
Follow your eye doctor's recommendations regarding care of your contact lenses. Use only products that he or she recommends.
Never use tap water with your contact lenses. Do not swim, shower or use a hot tub while wearing them. If you do decide to wear your lenses while swimming, wear airtight swim goggles and afterward dispose of the lenses immediately.
Be sure to soak your lenses in fresh disinfecting solution every night. Don't use a wetting solution or saline solution that isn't intended for disinfection.
Always wash your hands before handling your lenses.
Unless you are wearing disposable contact lenses that are replaced daily, always clean the lenses upon removal, or at a minimum, rub the lenses with your multipurpose solution and rinse the solution off of the lens.

Has Ciba Vision discontinued its ';Clear Care'; contact lens solution?
I use ';Clear Care'; for my contact lenses and I love it! But I've been to about 10 different stores here in Central Florida and can't find it anywhere! I even asked a clerk at CVS if she knew anything about it and she thought that the product had been discontinued, but didn't know how to confirm it. No, they haven't discontinued it, but according to the automated message on their hotline, the plant that manufactures it is going through some sort of equipment upgrade, and so it won't be on the shelves again until the beginning of April.
I was freaking out myself thinking they'd done something stupid like discontinued it, because I'd gone to like 10 stores in L.A. myself trying to find the darn stuff. I can't use the other manufacturer's brands because they use preservatives, so I was really worried and called Ciba Vision to find out what in flipping hell was going on. :-)

Whoa! It sounds unsafe. There's actually a metal part? If your contacts case filled with solution gets metal pieces in there, then it's contaminated. I've never heard of a contact lens solution coming in something other than a cardboard box.

I was searching for a solutions in my cabnet and reached in without looking and grabbed my buddy's solution that says ';do not put in eye'; and boy did it burn and turn red. YOu should have flushed your eyes for a long time with water or straight saline. Please do not use any visine that has a ';get the red our'; vasoconstrictor. You sound like you are over the major part of it, but the corners of your eyes are dry and still red. Get some Lubricating eye drops that are like Tears, or Genteal, or something that is for dry eyes. If it does nto clear up go to the doctor. I've done that before...accidents do happen. It did burn like crazy!! You should have rinsed with water prior to the Visine use, but you'll be okay. Just keep flushing your eye with the Visine, at least.

You can get facial....Try Proactive and CeraVe. The two products work well. I had the same problem at once. You must nuture your skin. Do NOT pick or touch. The bacteria from your hands gets on you face and infects it even worse. You have to wash in the am when you wake up and in the pm when you go to sleep. ALWAYS!!!
Try Proactiv to clear up acne. The mask which comes along with it which is sulfur rich is great to put on for spot treatment (overnight). For the scars, apply Vitamin E (more than 400 IU) dedicatedly every night before you sleep. Also try Estee Lauder Micro-D cleanser with Skin Refinishing Lotion twice a week. (Its fantastic and u can see results almost immediately!!)

You can get facial....Try Proactive and CeraVe. The two products work well. I had the same problem at once. You must nuture your skin. Do NOT pick or touch. The bacteria from your hands gets on you face and infects it even worse. You have to wash in the am when you wake up and in the pm when you go to sleep. ALWAYS!!!
Try Proactiv to clear up acne. The mask which comes along with it which is sulfur rich is great to put on for spot treatment (overnight). For the scars, apply Vitamin E (more than 400 IU) dedicatedly every night before you sleep. Also try Estee Lauder Micro-D cleanser with Skin Refinishing Lotion twice a week. (Its fantastic and u can see results almost immediately!!)
On ebay they sell this dermabraition wash cloth which is ment to do what you are talking about. I have one and it does work. Also I use the proactive solution.

Sounds like a great idea. The acne medication either acid or benzoyl peroxide can dry out skin pretty fast. I always recommend alternating products to avoid the problem.heart rate

Clear Care solution for contacts?
after setting my contacts in their case for 6 hours, before i can put them in my eyes, can i rinse them with a sterile solution? or can i just go ahead and put them in my eyes?..Clear Care solution for contacts?

Acne solutions..clearing..?
I have had acne on my forehead for a few months now.. and it is really annoying. I have a life and friends so it's hard to live with. I've tried some different things.. but NOTHING seems to work, I have tried some acne wipes and cremes - no good. I've read that toothpaste.. is supposed to help, and ice and benzoil peroxide (however u spell that) helps, but does it actually clear it up? like. CLEAR IT UP.. i've also hear that Proactive is a good one, but ive also heard that its not.. is it?
School is coming up and I don't want my year to start off like this :(.

The bangs may be a good reason for having the acne there, the oil from your hair could cause it. Make sure you wash your hair often. Aw!! it's too bad for you... still try Garnier products like Pimple control pen which will help u alot.(If it's available in ur place) Wash ur face 3 times a day. Pimples because now ur skin no longer bare ur germs in the skin.Even i had it and still have little now and it's reducing alot. thnxs to all the methods my teacher gave me.Remember, to look really cool and hot remove all ur pimples. 4 that u need 2 get ur pimples get away. visit dermetologist to check how ur skin is really working and plz buy pimple control pen to wash away all ur pimples. 4 black heads... wash ur face 5 times a day.Be clean by complexion and i'm sure the pimples and black heads will be driven away from ur skin

wash your face twice daily. use soap-free...
and don't squeeze it and don't always touch your pimples because your hand is might dirty or whatever.... if you touch your pimples its will irritate it..

Just follow the instructions closely, and be sure to mask off around the headlight to avoid any damage to the paint, etc. It sure beats paying more than $100 per light to replace them with factory stuff. Over time, you may have to do them again, because that is the nature of the poly carbonate plastic that they use to make the lenses. It's easy to mold it into whatever shape they need, but it's porous and oxidizes easily.
A temporary fix is to buff them with rubbing compound.
here is a secret of the trade DONT TELL EVERYONE :)

Read the directions...you can't use it like the multi purpose cleaner you are used to.
It comes with a special case that has a disc at the bottom of it.That disc is what neutralizes it. The solution has to be in there for 6 hours to neutralize it before you can put your contacts in your eyes.

Thank goodness for Clear breeze. I have 3 credit cards with 7,300, 8,400 and 6,700 in debt. Their consultants or negotiators whatever they call them, were able to save me a lot of money by lowering my interest rates which lowered my payments. They then suggested that I use the money I saved to pay down my balance. I am looking at my report now and the one with 8,400 in debt, I was making a 2% or $168 monthly payment. The amount of time it would have taken me to pay off the debt was 100 months. When the interest rate was lowered I saved $87 a month in my monthly payment. When I apply this to my credit card payments my amount of time to pay off the debt reduces to 53 months. I saved on the credit card payments around $9000. Once of the credit card companies were real jerks and wouldn't do anything cause I had some late payments. You know how it is sometimes. They fought for me with the credit card company and then when they still wouldn't help they transferred the balance I owed to another card with a lower rate and the money I am saving will pay off the card really fast. She used the products religiosly and I can honestly say there was a difference. It wasn't an immediate magical evaporation of acne, but it did help. Since she was a long time user I can say that over time it seems to work better and better. Her skin is noticably healthier than mine now and we are twins.
I have personaly used some Clean and Clear Advanced products and had the same results I got with all facial cleansers;
1st week - Very clear skin
2nd week - New drasticaly worse breakouts.
My skin is too sensitive so I just stick to constantly ducking into bathrooms to splash water on my face and pat dry. I also use oil free lotion when i get dried out. I have never tried procative myself, but I would say if you have the money and are willing to go long term, then it's definetly the best of the two choices.Has anyone tried Proactive Acne Solution or Clean n Clear Advanced treatment? i rinse mine, but as long as you wait at least 6 hours for the gases to dissipate, you don't have to rinse them. that is the BEST thing to use. it makes my contacts last longer.

2 oz of md forte ';lotion 3'; (highest strength) was $35 on ebay, lasts forever. its $65 retail, so I got a good deal.

i would try using regular antibacterial soap. don't overwash though, because you'll wash off too many natural oils, and then your skin will try to overcompensate and start producing too much oil. I'm not sure what items from home would help or be safe for your skin. I've heard toothpaste left on your face to dry overnight sometimes help. be sure not to touch your face so much without washing your hands first, because the dirt and oils on your fingertips and under your nails will transfer to your skin and make the problem worst-not to mention the bacteria that's under your nails... good luck! note--sugar and baby oil might make a good scrub for your body if you don't have body acne, but it would NOT make a good scrub for your face--especially if you already have acne. plus if the sugar doesn't dissolve fast enough, it can leave tiny scratches in your skin surface and they can get infected--imagine with baby oil? the scratches would fill with baby oil and voila! a new pimple! save your face, and save this particular scrub for your body.How to clear this skin up? Can i reuse clear care contact lens solution?
it seems so wasteful to empty out the whole container every time
if i need to take my contacts out for a little while in the afternoon (naps), can i put the contacts back into the already neutralized solution?? i'll use fresh solution over night.

Go to a dermatologist and ask for Roaccutane (i think that is how you spell it)

I have sensitive skin and proactive makes my skin flaky and dry,Clean and Clear made it even worse PLUS i got a rash from it...but Clinique cleared my face up in like week and i had no problems with it AT ALL. i would recomend it to everyone

I use avon dermabrasion, it is a toothpaste shaped tube with 2 different colored sides, or they sell a great one i believe by Olay for 35 bucks. sounds expensive but it lasts a long time. avon has been great for me.
I sometimes just end up beginning low end and sampling a few different ones. Do what seems right and I bet your instinct will be best.

It has NOT been discontinued and there have been no studies saying that it isn't an effective cleaner/disinfectant. What really happened is that there was a protocol violation at Ciba's only manufacturing plant. Nothing was contaminated, but Ciba shut down the plant to get everything back the way it was supposed to be. 3 or 4 weeks ago they resumed production of Clear Care and shipped the product to their distribution center in Kansas. Before any of the product could be distibuted, a tornado hit the facility. Ciba can only manufacture one product at a time (Clear Care is first on the list), so it will take a little time for it to get back on the shelves - but it IS coming back!! This is always the problem since ponds need to be in full sun. I have found with all my ponds, water lettuce Hythis and cattails work best. I don't like to over plant ground plants not only because the Koi and goldfish uproot them and make the ponds muddy, the floating lettuces and Hythis are great to shading the pond, cooling the water and feeding the fish all along eating the nitrates keeping the algae low. Forget snails they will quickly take over.
Barley etc doesn't work either. Phosporus pads in the filter help but not with a full sun pond. it is a natural occurance. Ecotint or ecofix works in late fall and is harmless for the fish.
Try the floating plant but remember to remove them in the fall since they will not grow in a tank and they will not survive the winter.

How large is your pond? Any algae needs nutrients to grow, so if it's a small one, take out any dead leaves or parts of plants that may have died off as soon as you notice them. Also, do a partial water change (around 25%) to get rid of any excess nitrates and phosphates in the water - these could be from the dead leaves, fish food or poop if you keep fish in the pond, or from using plant fertilizers for any pond plants if you use them - and replace the water with fresh. Nitrates and phosphates are a plant (and algae!) fertilizer.
Shading the lower portions of the pond where algae grows will also help. Use floating plants, or those with floating leaves to help keep the light out of the pond.
Just remember that as the algae dies, it will release more nutrients into the pond, so you'll need to keep up with the partial water changes for a while.
Some of the algae, if it's not being eaten by fish or snails (if you have these), you may have to removed by hand. And while UV and barley straw won't do anything for the attached algae you've already got, they will help prevent new algae.
Chemicals and tints should only be a last resort. These can affect other organisms (plant and animal) living in the pond, and if there's more die-off, you'll only add to the nutrient load.

As a quicker solution, many people use Veggie filters. They say that veggie filters work better than UV. You can find tons of information on building your own veggie filter by searching the web, but I've added a few links below to get you started.
Many people use a chemical called Potassium permanganate to control algae and organic compounds in the pond. I have used it and it works very well. You can buy it on Ebay, but it is a dangerous chemical if not used properly. You can read about how to use it by doing a search here...www.koivet.com.
Overall, patience and lots of plants will be the best defense against algae. It is a problem in the spring for most everone because it takes a while for the plants to grow. DID YOU SAY YELL? I won't, I have a sore throat. Well, I've always taken the natural approach and cleaned it out by hand. Just rip it out, and then scrape off the the weed and algae from the side with a clean palette knife or similarly edged tool. I also found that having running water, eg a fountain helps a great deal too, stops gunge forming. Algae and blanket weed need to photosynthesise to grow - is it possible to add a little dappled shade to make it less prolific? Obviously you don't want anything that will shed it's leaves into the water so I'll leave you to ponder that one.
Fresh water snails are helpful too - get big ones though or your fish will chow them down!
I would never ever put chemicals in my pond. Ponds are hard work! You knew that... :)

I find there is nothing better than plenty of shade, as direct sunlight will make things worse. Also constant running water, so the temperatures stay down, coz the warmer the temp, the more algea and stuff, so a good pump and filter system are a must. Also algea eating fish work great.

If so, you just have to follow the basic routine of cleaning them well after every use no matter how long you've worn them for. This is to get rid of organic deposits/dirt etc. If you don't know I suggest you go back to you optician/optometrist or whoever dispensed your contact lenses to teach you how. They should never recommend or sell them to you anyway and expect you to know the cleaning protocols.
Wasting solution is not a good enough reason to risk infecting your eye with bacteria and other stuff.
Just as an analogy, think of using a knife to spread some butter on a piece of bread. You may use the knife for 1 swipe of butter, 2 swipes or even more. Can i rinse my soft contacts with opti-free replenish solution after 6 hours of clear care?

and the doctor explained a lot of stuff to me.
but i forgot if i can rinse the contact lenses with opti-free replenish solution, that she gave me, after six hours of clear care ?

I only use Clear Care. You cannot rinse with it because it is a peroxide cleaning agent. You will burn your cornea, so please be careful. That's why the red band is on the nozzle of the bottle, as a warning. Do not use anything but pure saline solution to rinse them, unless your doctor says otherwise. You can buy find it by the multi-purpose solutions, usually on the bottom shelf. Make sure you follow the directions to a tee regarding cleaning time and never put them in before the 6 hours. my son has been using pine tar soap for a over two months now. it has really helped clear it up. he had it really bad. huge sores on his face, back and some on his arms and chest. you can get it thru your pharmacy. it costs about $4 a bar and a bar can last 3-4 wks. His skin is 100 percent clearer now.

WHY DOES THE SOLUTION STAY CLEAR IN ONE AND CLOUDY IN THE OTHER? - OSMOSIS?
in an experiment of osmosis-i found that potato slices left in a 5% sodium chloride left the solution completely clear. when observing the 2%, 0.5% sodium chloride solutions and the distilled water solution they were all cloudy.
is there a reason behind this?

The water from inside the potato moves to the salt solution, causing the potato to shrink and to lose its 'turgor pressure'. The more concentrated the salt solution, the bigger the difference in size and weight of the potato slice.
Therefore...more salt concentration outside means...steeper water potential gradient...and therefore more water moved out of the potato which in turn made the solution clear.
Similarly...less concentration of salt solution outside...means less steeper water potential gradient and so less water moved out of the potato slices and therefore it remained cloudy!!!

Neutrogena acne solutions vs clean and clear advantage?
i would like 2 knw which is better based on real ppl not thru commercials. both claim to be better than proactive but neither say abt the other. i dont want 2 use proavtive at all nd mi acne varies sometimes its a bunch on mi forehead nd sumtimes its only a lil. im 15 yrs old nd mi oily areas are the t-zone nd around mi nose. can anybody tell me which of the 2 products is better?

I used to use ProActiv and it worked wonderfully as well but it was just too much for me to pay $60 a month to have it delivered and sometimes the shipment would be late and that would cause my acne to show up again. But, before you can figure out what will work best for your skin, you need to know how sensitive it is. Most acne products are made with one of two active ingredients : salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Salicylic acid products are weaker and less drying. They are meant for minor breakouts and extremely sensitive skin. Benzoyl peroxide products are stronger, work faster and are meant for moderate to severe acne issues. Benzoyl peroxide products will dry out sensitive skin.

I am only 14 years old, however, I have a pimply face..sounds digusting I know. I just feel so gross going out in public because I see all these other people with these perfect skin, and I get so jealous. I know I shouldnt, but I dont know how to fix it. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could help clear these pimples up? Such as Clean and Clear products, or any other options! I am totally open to your help. Get a tube of Clearasil with benzoil peroxide. Slather it on all over your face paying special attention to the pimples before you go to bed. Wear it all night while you sleep. When you wake up, wash it off with a gentle cleanser, use toner, then put a tiny bit of the Clearasil on just the pimples. Then put your proactive moisturizer all over your face. Throughout the day, pat your skin with a paper towel in the bathroom, especially the t-zone. Wash your face again at night, tone, and do the Clearasil routine again. Do that for a couple of days until the pimples are gone. Then just keep your face clean like you normally would. When you start to get a zit, put a little dab of the Clearasil on it. It might take a couple of tubes of Clearasil, but eventually you will only need a tiny bit once in a while. Hi. I too suffered with acne. I tried all the over the counter products and even extra strength Proactiv. Nothing helped me. I saw my Dermatologist and he prescribed a sulfur face wash, Tretinoin cream and Duac cream. My acne is just about all gone! It's a miracle! Go see a Dermatologist my friend.. good luck

I also found that cleansing and toning and mosterising my face everyday helped.
You should also try a cream called sudacream.

Remember, pimples take a long time to go away. You need to wash your face AT LEAST twice a day (once in the morning, once at night). DON'T over wash- this could cause irritation and ultimately give you more breakouts!! Also, their are pimples forming already without you knowing so take action... don't ever touch your face b/c your hands carry bad oils %26amp; sleep with your hair up or clipped back b/c your hair carries oils that can make your face break out.
Be careful with what makeup you use- try staying away from liquids. Use powder instead. There is powder out there that does give you full coverage.. from clinique/lancome. These brands are pricey. I think clinique is $27 and lancome is $37. But are WELL WORTH the money! They give you a flawless look and are quality brands.
